Custom Kindle Covers - My Attempt for Perfection |
I took a different approach in making my own, that of holding a book
comfortably in any position. I suggest the primary objective in hundreds
of thousands of these devices purchased was to enhance the reading
experience with limitless access to reading material. When considering
an aftermarket cover, sleeve, or pouch reflect on why you purchased your
Kindle. I predict that the market will eventually be flooded with
expensive designer models that perfectly match your briefcase or shoes
yet remain unnatural to hold and read.

Custom Kindle Cover question & answer |
|
Question : Why would I consider this cover? | Answer : It's definitely a handmade item, thus unique, if you're into that kind of thing. I tried to make it to be as much like a book as possible. I actually prefer holding it better than a book in that when the cover is folded back I have a comfortable little shelve to grip it on either the right or left side. Depending on the type of covering I use, it just feels good and a side benefit is it attracts attention from other Kindle users. |
Question : What are the drawbacks for considering this cover? | Answer : Some people might have concern regarding the metal clip. It's not totally unattractive but its also not produced to exacting specification as in a factory. I cut and bend the clip by hand and fit it to the Kindle. It matches the Kindle in color and serves the purpose designed but it's obvious that it's handmade. It cost thousands of dollars to create a mold and have hundreds mass produced with plastic injection molding. I simply make these as a hobby, one at a time, and have no designs on mass production. |
Question : Do you make gender specific or covers to specific specifications? | Answer : Believe it or not, I actually have a day job thus my production is limited. I originally made exclusively covers that would probably be more favored by men, heavy canvas, camouflage, leather etc. These generated little interest other than females requesting the feminine stuff. The flashy stuff has sold quite well, thus supporting my hobby. I have recently received many request for masculine covers and have started to post a few to see if I get a renewed response. I make a few to specific specifications and will be glad to consider any request for designs or patterns. |
Question : Is it really a handmade item, everyone claims something is handmade? | Answer : Although I live in the South, I don't actually grow the cotton and don't own a loom. The center clip is made from Aluminum that I purchase, not having the capability for smelting raw ore. I do cut and sew the fabric and actually cut out the metal clip with a pair of tin snips. |
Question : Are you a Ted Kacznski type of character sewing in a tar paper shack? | Answer : I think a troll under a bridge would be a more accurate description. There is also a great deal of difference in last names as Kacznski seems to have far too many consonants in a row |
